The Downtown Denver Arts Festival is a great place to get art at reasonable prices. There’s plenty of affordable food in the neighborhood, too. Here are a few eateries to check out.
Anthony’s Pizza and Pasta 1550 California St., 303-573-6236,
Stroll just a few blocks and you’ll find Anthony’s, which offers up a quick slice of lunch Monday through Saturday. There are 21 of these restaurants, but the downtown location seems to always get it right. Order a large pie and give everyone a piece.
CityGrille 321 E. Colfax Ave., 303-861-0726,
Wander up to Colfax Avenue and check out the local icon that has built its worthy reputation on great burgers. The chicken wings and the green chile are popular, too, and so is the daily special. Ask about it.
Wazee Supper Club 1600 15th St., 303-623-9518,
Buzz down 15th Street for a taste of downtown before it was the LoDo we now know and love. Familiar fare like burgers and pizza make it a solid stop for all. Hard to resist: the meatlover’s pie.
Fish and football (the other kind)
Soccer fanatics, like other sports fanatics, like to watch games in packs, at places with lots of television screens like GB Fish and Chips on South Broadway. Sip on a Newcastle Brown and munch on fried cod or bangers while you cheer on Manchester United. 1311 S. Broadway, 720-570-5103. Tucker Shaw
