MINTURN, Colo.—Minturn residents have voted overwhelmingly to annex 4,300 acres to the town, clearing the way for a private ski and golf resort with 1,700 homes on Battle Mountain.
The annexation proposal, divided into 11 ballot questions, passed with an average of 87 percent of the votes in Tuesday’s election.
The Town Council had given preliminary approval for the annexation in February, but opponents circulated a petition to force a public vote.
The developer has promised the town more than $162 million in benefits including a recreation center, a library, new sidewalks and a bike path, water and wastewater treatment plants and scholarships.
Minturn, 75 miles west of Denver, is just southwest of Vail.
