NORTHGLENN — Northglenn police arrested the stepfather of two teenage siblings killed in a crash on suspicion that he beat to death the driver of the other car after the accident in March.

An arrest affidavit alleges Phillip Chavez assaulted 62-year-old Glenn Ryburn while he was still buckled in his car after the crash. The accident instantly killed 14-year-old Damien Noyes and 13-year-old Angel Noyes, both of Loveland.

Chavez was jailed this week, more than two months after the accident. He was being held on $100,000 bond.

Ryburn never regained consciousness after the crash and died May 16. The coroner ruled his death was the result of blunt-force trauma to his head.

Chavez and his family were returning home from a Denver Nuggets game and had pulled to the side of the road on Interstate 25 in Northglenn when they were rear-ended by Ryburn.
