Theo Fleury, professional baseball player? Not quite. A news release from the Calgary Vipers, an independent minor-league baseball team, suggested Fleury, a former Avalanche forward who has not played in the NHL since 2003, was going to attempt to make the team and live a boyhood dream. But the story turned out only to be a publicity stunt. Fleury will throw out a ceremonial first pitch today, and at some point in the season might get a chance to play for a couple of innings. “I learned a lot in a short time what an art it is to hit a ball,” an out-of-breath Fleury said after batting practice. “Within a matter of five minutes he had my swing picked apart.”
