The Denver Newspaper Agency has hired the former general manager of the Los Angeles Times to direct its marketing and advertising operations.

David Murphy, 54, joined the agency Wednesday as general manager and chief revenue officer, a new position.

“His creative insight and metropolitan market experience will be valuable as the DNA continues to shape its role in the evolving media landscape,” said Harry Whipple, president and chief executive of the agency, in a statement.

The DNA oversees business operations at The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News under a joint operating agreement.

Murphy spent 30 years at the Tribune Co., where he directed advertising sales at the Chicago Tribune and launched Tribune Media Net, which sold advertising across media platforms in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

In June 2005, he was named general manager of the Los Angeles Times, a position he held until February.
