Former Denver Broncos punter Todd Sauerbrun pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace today just before his trial was set to begin.
Sauerbrun was accused of slapping a cab driver in the back of the head after an argument outside a Cherry Creek restaurant in December.
After the incident, Denver police accused the former player of being abusive toward officers. He was cited and taken to detox after the incident.
Sauerbrun had previously denied the allegations.
In Denver County Court, Sauerbrun pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace. The assault charge was dismissed.
Sauerbrun agreed to a year of unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service and $244 in fines.
Sauerbrun had signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract for the 2007 season, his second stint with the Broncos. The Broncos released the 35-year-old Sauerbrun shortly after the altercation.
