BROOMFIELD, Colo.—Vail Resorts says it is withdrawing from the trade group Colorado Ski Country USA because of “philosophical differences.”

The company said Wednesday it believes the group should focus on a more traditional public-policy role and that ski industry marketing would be best handled by working with the Colorado Tourism Office.

Colorado Ski Country describes itself as a marketing, communications and public policy arm for more than two dozen Colorado ski resorts.

Vail Resorts, based in the Denver suburb of Broomfield, is the nation’s largest ski resort. It owns and operates Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone and Breckenridge ski areas in Colorado, Heavenly in Nevada and California, and the lodge near Jackson, Wyo.
