With the likes of rockers Ozzy Osbourne and Vince Neil collecting his martini- and gambling-themed work, it’s no wonder that artist and housewares designer Michael Godard continues to flaunt his hard-rock aesthetic. His top-selling book, “Don’t Drink and Draw,” was named Best Art Book by USA Book News, and Godard has made an even bigger name for himself through appearances on HBO’s “Cat House,” and the A&E shows “Criss Angel’s Mind Freak,” “American Casino” and “Inked.” This larger-than-life artist will appear and sign work from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at Fascination St. Fine Art at 315 Detroit St. in Denver. Call 303-333-1566 to RSVP for the event.

The real do-it-yourselfers

The June issue of This Old House magazine takes DIY media to a new level with content generated entirely by readers. “I think this is the best issue of This Old House I’ve ever read,” editor Scott Omelianuk writes in his editor’s letter. Some of the stories include a detailed account of how one Connecticut couple remodeled their kitchen with appliances found on Craigslist and in discount stores, and a reader panel that offers advice about how to handle remodeling disasters. Any submissions not featured in the magazines can be found online at .

Grand rebranding

Calico Home is the new name of the Cherry Creek North design store at 252 Clayton St. formerly known as Calico Corners. The company also has opened a new store in Lone Tree at 9140 E. Westview Road. During six decades of business, these company stores have evolved from being places that stock upholstery remnants to being sophisticated purveyors of high quality interior fabrics and design services. To celebrate their new image, both Denver-area stores will host evening workshops with designer Joe Ruggiero, host of HGTV’s “Homes Across America,” a series that showcases homes representative of specific regional or architectural styles. His workshop is called “Design Ideas for Living Indoors & Out,” and will happen at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Lone Tree, and at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Denver. Reservations are suggested. To reserve space, call Calico Home in Park Meadows/Lone Tree at 303-662-1126 or Cherry Creek at 303-377-7055.
