Daniel Cleary made Premier Danny Williams proud. Cleary is the first hockey player from Newfoundland and Labrador to win the Stanley Cup. “It’s just another little notch in our belt as Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” Williams said Thursday. “We’re a tour de force and we’re coming in Canada. I just want to thank Danny Cleary for having done that for us.” Cleary, from Harbour Grace, helped Detroit defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Wednesday night and win the series 4-2. Only 26 players from Newfoundland and Labrador have played in the NHL. The Associated Press/AP photo
