COLORADO SPRINGS — A court appearance has been postponed for Colorado woman considered a “person of interest” with phone calls that may have triggered a raid on a Texas polygamist compound.
Rozita Swinton is accused of making a false abuse claim in Colorado Springs in February. Her preliminary hearing in a Colorado Springs court on that misdemeanor charge was postponed until July 9.
Prosecutors say Swinton’s lawyer wants more time to prepare.
Texas authorities say a phone number linked to Swinton may have been used by a woman who called a Texas crisis center before the April 3 raid at the polygamist compound. Authorities removed more than 460 children from the compound in a sex-abuse investigation. Most have been returned after the courts said authorities overreached.
