Getting your player ready...

You know you want a peek. It’s the biggest thing in town. And you could get one.

The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Tuesday that it will conduct tours of the Pepsi Center for one day in the week before the convention gets started.

“During the open house, local residents will be the first to get a glimpse of the innovative podium design before thousands of delegates and other special guests arrive in Denver,” the committee said in a release at a Lower Downtown gathering.

Details on the date and tickets will come later. The convention is Aug. 25-28 at the Pepsi Center.

The open-house complements a program the party is trying in which it will hold its daily caucus meetings open to the public at the Colorado Convention Center.

The convention committee’s chief executive, Leah Daughtry, stressed to downtown merchants and workers that she expects convention-night events to have little impact on traffic or quality of life.

Because the delegates will be shuttled into the hall by 4 p.m. and remain inside until 9 p.m., evening rush hour should proceed as usual, she said.

Delegates stay in their hotels in breakfast meetings from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., so the morning rush hour also should be unaffected, Daughtry said.

Security details have yet to be released by the Secret Service.
