The Colorado Division of Wildlife will hold two public meetings to gather comments on management of the Georgetown bighorn sheep herd.
Discussion will center on desired herd objectives toward a 10-year management plan.
Meetings will be June 30 at the Georgetown Community Center, 613 Sixth St., and July 7 at the DOW education building, 6060 Broadway, Denver. Both start at 7 p.m.
Comment also may be submitted via e-mail to jennifer.churchill@state.co.us by July 14.
Pagosa stocking.
Pagosa Springs has launched a program that Sunday will begin stocking 9,000 rainbow trout through a 2-mile, public-access stretch of the San Juan River flowing through the town.
Extending through Aug. 4, the initiative will place trout ranging in size from 12 inches to 6 pounds. The plants will be made between the junction of highways 160 and 84 downstream to Apache Street Bridge. Ponds at River Center Park also will be stocked.
Flooding the gap.
For the first time in five years, Lake Powell’s Castle Rock Cut became flooded and open to boat travel. Rising water enabled boats to cross directly from Wahweep to Warm Creek without negotiating the often-rough, 12-mile river channel.
Biologist Wayne Gustaveson also reports the start of striped bass surface feeding on newly hatched shad in Navajo Canyon and near the mud line in the San Juan arm.
