CENTENNIAL, Colo.—The jury deciding the fate of Sir Mario Owens has begun deliberations in the penalty phase of his trial.

The same group of jurors previously found the 23-year-old guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of Javad Marshall-Fields and Marshall-Fields’ fiancee, Vivian Wolfe, three years ago in Aurora.

Marshall-Fields had been set to testify against Owens in another shooting death.

Jurors have already ruled that Owens’ case meets all five aggravating factors necessary for him to be eligible for the death penalty.

The panel would have to vote unanimously for Owens to be executed or he would automatically be sentenced to life in prison.
