PIÑON CANYON MANEUVER SITE — Light winds were again expected to help firefighters battling a 42,000-acre wildfire on Saturday.
Lightning is believed to have started the fire June 8 on the Army’s Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site. It spread to surrounding ranch land as well as state and federal land.
Several federal fire teams were fighting the fire along with personnel from the Army and the Colorado National Guard.
“With the resources we have fighting the fire today and the forecast light winds, we hope to make excellent progress,” said Mike Gaylord, operations section chief for the Rocky Mountain Type II incident management team. The Associated Press
