The Denver committee responsible for raising money to stage the Democratic National Convention is more than $11 million short of its goal as of today, the contractual deadline.

Charged with raising $40.6 million during the past year and a half, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has made more than 20 fund-raising trips and has been assisted by Gov. Bill Ritter, Denver attorney Steve Farber and the state’s elected Democrats in Washington.

Officials said in a press release they had raised $29 million.

“The Denver Host Committee is fully confident about completing its fund-raising goals,” host committee spokesman Chris Lopez said in a statement. “It will continue to raise private donations to meet its contractual obligations over the next two months.”
