
Hot weather should help fuel afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern plains today and rivers on the Western Slope are rising and running fast as snow melts in the high country.
Thunderstorms should develop over the Western Slope and mountains today and move out over the eastern plains where they’ll intensify with the afternoon heat and increased moisture, the weather service said.
The main threat of storms on the plains will be east of Fort Morgan and Limon where one-inch diameter hail is possible along with strong, gusty winds.
Afternoon thunderstorms in southeastern Colorado could unleash two-inch diameter hail and winds up to 60 mph east of I-25, the weather service said.
On the Western Slope some rivers and creeks will be running above their banks as hot weather settles in over the next several days.
In Denver today, partly cloudy skies will bring a chance of isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms as the high temperature hits about 89 degrees, the weather service said.
Tomorrow’s weather in Denver will be about the same, with the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms increasing slightly to 20 percent and a high temperature of about 90 degrees, according to the weather service.
