The city of Littleton is honoring a long-time police officer who died last year after battling cancer.

A tree-planting ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Geneva Park, 2255 West Berry Ave., to honor Lt. C.W. “Bill” Black, the city said in a news release.

Black served with the Littleton Police Department from 1979 to 2007. His duties included commanding the SWAT unit and he also served as a Mmster firearms instructor.

Littleton Police Chief Heather Coogan will be among those honoring Black at the ceremony, which will include the planting of a Northern Red Oak on the north side of the police department offices.

Dedication of a memorial library in the police department’s headquarter will follow the tree-planting ceremony.
