Garfield County deputies yanked a man from the Colorado River west of New Castle on Monday afternoon in current running fast and deep.

He was rushed to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.

The man’s condition was not available, and authorities have not released his name or age.

Witnesses saw the man bobbing in the river for about 8 miles until rescuers reached him, still alive.

The man was wearing a life preserver, but how he wound up in the river is still under investigation, said spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis.
