The first of four cameras that will snap drivers who run red lights at select Denver intersections went online today.

The camera at Quebec Street and East 36th Avenue began operating at midnight.

Drivers who are tagged for running the light will receive a citation and photo documentation by mail.

In order for drivers to become familiar with the red-light cameras, there will be a 30-day grace period that begins on the date of each camera’s activation.

The citations issued as a result of this camera’s activities won’t carry a fine until July 17. From that day forward, the fine for a camera-detected violation at the intersection will be $75.

A similar advisory will be issued in advance of the activation of the remaining three Denver red-light camera locations: eastbound West Sixth Avenue at Kalamath Street; eastbound East Sixth Avenue at Lincoln Street; and westbound West Eighth Avenue at southbound Speer Boulevard.
