COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A jury convicted a woman of killing her romantic rival by slashing her throat with a box cutter and leaving her to bleed to death while the victim’s 18-month old son was in the hotel room.
Thirty-year-old Crystal Mawson was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and child abuse in the slaying of 45-year-old Diana Young in a Colorado Springs hotel. Fourth Judicial District Judge David Gilbert immediately sentenced Mawson to life in prison.
Jurors rendered their verdict after asking to watch the videotape of a Mawson’s interrogation. A second woman faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly driving Mawson to the hotel and then helping get rid of evidence.
