A Monument-based lure company has compiled an impressive record in recent bass tournament competition. Sebile, noted for its innovation in hard plastics, began its streak with a Bassmasters Elite victory in early May by Todd Faircloth at Lake Amistad, Texas.
Two weeks later, Kenyon Hill made it back-to-back Bassmasters titles for the Sebile Magic Swimmer lure at Clark Hill Lake, S.C. At the same time, another Sebile lure, the Blood Red Stick Shad, was the centerpiece of a Redfish Cup victory at Punta Gorda, Fla.
Things really heated up for the Magic Swimmer at an early June Bassmasters event at Lake Murray, S.C., where eight of the top 12 finishers used that lure.
Meanwhile, the same lure landed a 17-pound bass in Japan, touching off a minor sensation in that country and an overall Internet clamor.
“We’re getting 20,000 hits a day on our website,” said Dave Maynard, a former tournament pro and a Sebile company official. “It’s just been crazy.”
Southeast easement.
A partnership among the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Colorado Open Lands, Great Outdoors Colorado and a private landowner has secured a conservation easement on 13,920 acres of wildlife habitat and open space in eastern Las Animas County.
The easement on the Beatty Canyon Ranch, also known as the Purgatoire Ranch, protects habitat for bighorn sheep, deer, pronghorn, turkey, bear, mountain lion and various smaller wildlife. DOW contributed $500,000 of the total $1.7 million price tag.
