Dallas-based TransFirst Holdings is opening a call center today in Aurora that will employ 50 workers.

The company, which employs 550 people at its operations center in Louisville, will make hires for the call center sales team by the end of the year. It plans to expand its national workforce of 778 employees by up to 15 percent in the next few months.

TransFirst did demographic searches and found there are many educated, talented professionals in Aurora that have call-center talent.

“The cost of living is slightly lower in Aurora, so that is appealing to people,” a company spokeswoman said. “It allows TransFirst to expand their talent pool.”

Aurora’s strength is its diversity, said Katheryn Middleton, a spokeswoman for the Aurora Economic Development Council.

“We’re known for aerospace and bioscience, but we’re also known for manufacturing, distribution and call centers,” Middleton said. “To keep an economy going in the right direction, you need to have a diverse workforce and diverse employers.”

TransFirst provides transaction processing and payment technologies, serving more than 1,000 community banks and 160,000 merchants nationwide. Its 16,759-square-foot Aurora office is at 3131 S. Vaughn Way.
