GOLDEN, Colo.—The man who was the getaway driver in the robbery and slaying of a Burger King employee last summer faces life in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder.

Jefferson County jurors convicted 19-year-old Lindell Mark Sample after a five-day trial. Last month, jurors also convicted 18-year-old Thomas Steven Johns and 22-year-old Anthony John Lowe of first-degree murder. The conviction carries a mandatory life in prison sentence.

Johns and Lowe were charged with getting into the Arvada Burger King by climbing in through the drive-through window, hitting 31-year-old employee Celia Meza in the head with a gun, and then locking her up in a freezer. Lowe later shot her when he caught her trying to call police.

The men took $1,900 from the restaurant’s safe.
