Broomfield police arrested a 19-year-old man after he boasted about robbing a Subway restaurant at gunpoint, authorities say.
James “Dalton” Gruen, of Broomfield was arrested for investigation of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, felony menacing and theft, said Sgt. Colleen O’Connell, Broomfield police spokeswoman.
Gruen allegedly entered the Subway at 555 Hwy 287 June 24, 2008 at 9:13 p.m. with a blue bandana over his face and lifted his sweatshirt revealing a black semi-automatic handgun, O’Connell said.
The 6-feet-6 Gruen, who weighs 175 pounds and has a prominent tattoo on his neck, used the gun to threaten the employee and ordered him to open a cash register and give him money, she said. After the employee did so, Gruen allegedly tied the man to a chair and taped his mouth shut, she said.
A witness later called police and told them that Gruen, who went by his middle name “Dalton,” was boasting about the robbery, O’Connell said.
Police arrested Gruen on Tuesday after tracking him to a Taco Bell, which is next to the Subway, she said. The Subway employee said that Gruen had eaten at the restaurant the same day of the robbery, she said.
“It was good police work,” O’Connell said.
Gruen is being held at the Broomfield County Jail on $100,000 bond.
