Just a few years ago, it was rare to catch Denver kids walking the halls of their high schools wearing a local band’s T-shirt and making plans to catch its next performance that weekend.

But then something changed. MySpace helped, sure, but the music scene here also got better — and the local modern-rock station, KTCL 93.3- FM, began paying closer attention to the talent developing under its noses.

And then it happened. The Fray signed to Sony. Coloradans drew comparisons to Big Head Todd & the Monsters because that was all they knew of the major-label realm in Colorado.

But that was then.

Now it seems Colorado bands are all the buzz on major labels and independent labels alike. The latest noteworthy move: the relase of Tickle Me Pink’s “Madeline” on Wind-up records last week.

Next up: Release of 3Oh!3’s new record, “Want,” due Tuesday on Photo Finish Records.

More could be coming. Denver band Born in the Flood played a label showcase just last week in the middle of the day at the Hi-Dive.

Much of this success is driven by singles. So let’s look at the singles that broke the bands.
