Getting your player ready...

Let’s not complicate things. When it comes to catching crappie, the simplest gear often works best and, better still, is easiest for kids or beginning anglers to master. Start with the lightest possible tackle for maximum sport with fish that may not be very big. A sliding cigar bobber makes for quick depth adjustment and helps cast the lure out into the lake. Keep your lure small; 1/32-ounce often works best, never larger than 1/16. Experiment with color and retrieve. Let the fish tell you whether it wants the movement slow, medium or fast, then repeat what’s working.
