Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey says he will not file criminal charges against two officers who fatally shot a man May 17 after he threatened one of them as they answered a suicide call.
Officers Chris Pappas and Chris Cesarec fatally shot Odiceo Lopez Valencia, 45, at 5553 N. Dillon Way
On the day he was shot, a drunken Valencia went to his estranged wife’s home and slit his wrist with a butcher knife, according to police records.
Pappas, Cesarec and several other officers drove to the home. Valencia got out of his car and went after Cesarec, telling him, “You, I want you.”
Cesarec and the other officers tried several evasive moves and fired nonlethal weapons at him including pepper balls and Taser barbs, but Valencia kept coming with a knife. Cesarec then shot Valencia.
