FORT SCOTT, Kan. — Three days after the first coin was placed on the ground Tuesday evening, a group of hundreds of volunteers had assembled a 40-mile chain of pennies Friday night in a middle school parking lot.
It’s the longest line of pennies ever assembled, eclipsing the old mark by more than 5 miles, according to an official from the Guinness Book of World Records. The previous record was 34.57 miles, set in Malaysia in 1995.
