Kendra Reichenau of N3L Optics offers these tips in choosing sunglasses for popular summer sports:
GOLF
Rimless bottoms make it easier to look down and see the ball without distraction. Get an amber- or rose-colored lens for high contrast needed to see the ball against the green grass.
CYCLING
Lenses that wrap around outside of the eye cut down on wind and keep debris from eyes. Make sure that glasses fit comfortably under your helmet.
HIKING & CLIMBING
Photochromatic lenses adjust to varying light conditions.
FISHING & BOATING Mirrored and polarized lenses reflect light off water and reduce glare. You can get a hydrophobic coating over the lens so that water, dirt and oil smudges won’t stick to the lens (this is good for running and biking as well).
RUNNING
Look for lightweight, wraparound frames with adjustable nose piece and rubber-edged temples to avoid slippage when sweating; interchangeable lenses allow for varying conditions.
