Troopers said Tuesday that a 9-month-old survived a rollover crash that killed his parents because he was a child-passenger seat.
Investigators initially believed the child had been unrestrained when the SUV flipped over on Interstate 70 Sunday in Lincoln County that killed his parents, the Colorado State Patrol said Tuesday evening.
While Travis B. Carroll Jr. survived, his parents — , Travis B. Carroll, 21, and Heather L. Carroll, 19, of Wichita, Kan. — were killed in the accident near Genoa.
Investigators said the SUV was traveling eastwhen the father drove off and on the left side of the interstate before losing control and going airborne off the center median embankment. The SUV rolled two times, troopers said.
The infant was rushed to the Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo then airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center.
The child has since been released from the hospital, according to the state patrol.
