DENVER—State and U.S. Forest Service officials will present Colorado’s plan for managing some 4 million acres of roadless forest land when they meet with a federal advisory committee in Washington.
An advisory committee for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the Forest Service, will review the draft plan during a hearing Wednesday. Public hearings in Colorado will be held in August and public comments will be taken until Oct. 23rd.
Gov. Bill Ritter has said the state’s plan for managing the roadless areas is an insurance policy because of ongoing legal challenges to a Clinton-era rule and a Bush administration policy, which was thrown out by a federal judge in 2006.
