Drayson Bowman of Littleton, who helped lead the Spokane Chiefs to the Memorial Cup championship of Canadian major-junior hockey in May, signed a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.

Hurricanes assistant general manager Ron Francis made the announcement Wednesday, and the team said the left wing will receive a $262,500 signing bonus, and salaries of $550,000, $600,000 and $650,000 if he is on the NHL roster.

Bowman, a third-round draft choice of the Hurricanes in 2007, also still is eligible to play one more season of major junior with the Chiefs.

Bowman, 19, had 42 goals last season for Spokane, the Western Hockey League franchise co-owned by baseball great George Brett, had 11 more in the league playoffs and six more in four games in the Memorial Cup tournament. He also had the game-winner in the championship game against the Kitchener Rangers.
