An 18-year-old Boulder man drowned while three friends and families at the neighborhood lake north of Boulder searched for his submerged body.

Nearly two hours later, the teen’s body was found by a dive team searcher in about 14 feet of water about 150 feet from the bank, said Sgt. Jason Oehlkers of the Boulder County Sheriff’s office.

Authorities have not released the man’s name, pending the notification of his family.

Oehlkers said the four friends were swimming in the Lake Valley subdivision when one of them did not surface from the murky water with thick vegetation along its bottom, Oehlkers said.

A 911 call came in at 4:35 p.m. The man was found at 6:24 p.m.
