Highlight.

While Domonique Foxworth is pushing for playing time in the base defense at cornerback, he perhaps cemented his role in nickel coverage Saturday morning. He played tight coverage on Brandon Marshall throughout the practice, and then made one of his best plays of camp during the two-minute drill. He read the pass perfectly, and jumped in front of receiver Lorne Sam, who had his back turned, to make the interception. Had it been a game situation, Foxworth would likely have been untouched all the way to the end zone.

Lowlight.

While the Broncos’ passing game seemed on point earlier in the week, receivers had more trouble hanging on to passes Saturday morning, especially a couple guys who are on the bubble of making the team. Glenn Martinez dropped two, including one when he was wide open, and Clifford Russell had one bad drop. Quarterbacks also struggled with their passing lanes at times and had at least three balls batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Broncos bio: Josh Barrett

Safety Barrett may have been the second-to-last player the Broncos picked in the 2008 draft — in the seventh round and 220th overall — but after nine days of training camp practices, he’s building a reputation around Dove Valley as a ferocious hitter. “That boy can hit now,” running back Selvin Young teased as he passed by Barrett after Saturday’s practice. A few moments later, running back Andre Hall smiled as he called Barrett a “bully.”

Barrett is competing for the final roster spot at safety and is hoping to distinguish himself with “electrifying play.” He showed that Saturday by twice knocking down veteran tight end Nate Jackson in the open field. He also hopes to stand out on special teams.

“From Day One of my college experience, special teams was right there at the top of my list, and I’ve never given that mentality up,” said Barrett, who grew up in Reno, Nev., and graduated from Arizona State. “That is something I take a lot of pride in.”

Quote.

“I’m feeling real good about our defense and about our team. I just see a lot of hungry young guys and some crafty veterans.” – Linebacker Boss Bailey, who watched Saturday’s practice from the sideline to rest a sore knee
