State regulators on Tuesday fined two insurance carriers a total of more than $542,000 for violating a variety of rules designed to protect consumers. Among other things, the companiesRocky Mountain Hospital and Medical Service Inc. and HMO Colorado Inc. — failed to maintain required records, provide coverage to newborns or, in some cases, settle claims in a timely manner, according to insurance commissioner Marcy Morrison.
Rocky Mountain Hospital, doing business in Colorado as Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, was fined $290,000. HMO Colorado was fined $252,500. Both fines have been paid. The violations were found during the department’s routine inspection of provider conduct. The Denver Post
