DENVER—Colorado has been awarded a $1 million grant to get housing and other help for homeless veterans.

The grant was announced Wednesday by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. It will provide 210 vouchers for permanent housing and guidance for eligible homeless veterans and their families.

Karen Beye of the state Colorado Department of Human Services says about 20 percent of Colorado’s estimated 16,000 homeless people are veterans.
