COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Trial is under way in Colorado Springs for a woman charged with first-degree murder in the death of a friend’s romantic rival.
Stephanie Deverick faces life in prison without parole if convicted in the April throat-slashing death of 45-year-old Diana Young.
Court-appointed attorney Phil Winegar said Thursday that Deverick had no idea her friend was planning to kill Young when Deverick drove the friend to Young’s house.
Thirty-year-old Crystal Mawson was convicted in June of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and child abuse in Young’s killing.
Prosecutors say they will introduce evidence that will show Deverick not only knew about Mawson’s intentions, but that she inflamed them.
