An A-student who was an aspiring beauty queen and her boyfriend were among three young adults from Broomfield killed Saturday in a high-speed crash at an Interstate 25 off-ramp.
Daniella Devores, 20, was riding with her boyfriend, James Thomas, 22, and Melissa Burns, 18, when Thomas slammed into a median and his 2004 Subaru became airborne.
Nicholas Palmer, 19, of Broomfield, who was also in the car, was in critical condition Sunday at Denver Health Medical Center.
Devores had a 4.0 grade -point average at Metropolitan State College and wanted to be a lawyer, said her uncle, Hector Luna. The Broomfield High School graduate also wanted to win the Miss Colorado title, he added.
“This is a very tight family — we all loved her very much.”
Investigators think that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash and that Thomas was speeding when he hit the median on the northbound I-25 off-ramp at East 58th Avenue about 1:30 a.m.
Details about the other people in the crash were not available Sunday.
