Comedian Bernie Mac’s family had expected him to recover from the pneumonia that put him in a Chicago hospital three weeks ago. However, his only child, Je’niece Childress, said that she and her mother, Rhonda McCullough, braced for the possibility that he could die. “Initially when he was hospitalized we expected him to come back home, but as the weeks went on, I kind of knew,” Childress said.
