VAIL, Colo.—The town of Vail has hired Kristen Gray for the newly created position of environmental sustainability coordinator.

She begins her job Sept. 2.

Vail community development director George Ruther says Gray will work on creating recycling programs, making buildings more energy efficient, and promoting educational programs.

The Town Council in January said the environment should be one of the top three issues for it to tackle.

Gray previously worked for the Denver-based Institute for Environmental Solutions, which looks for solutions to problems such as pollution.
