CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuela has closed registration for candidates running in November’s state and local elections — leaving out 272 officials barred from running.
The blocked candidates include key foes of President Hugo Chavez. They have been marching to protest the ban.
Venezuela’s Supreme Court ruled last week that the decision to bar the candidates was constitutional. Comptroller General Clodosbaldo Russian said the candidates had been suspected of corruption.
