GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction mother pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony child abuse and other charges in connection with the alleged abuse of her stepchildren.

Thirty-four-year-old Kristie Liane Moore entered the pleas in a Mesa County courtroom.

Sheriff’s officials have said a 15-year-old boy was beaten with a belt, handcuffed to a banister and denied food and bathroom privileges as punishment for taking food and not doing his chores properly.

Moore, and the children’s father, John Wilson, are also accused of false imprisonment and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

A public defender says he plans to ask a judge to toss Moore’s videotaped statement to police.

Moore is due back in court for a motions hearing Nov. 7.
