THORNTON — A Thornton company is angry at Adams 12 Five Star Schools for backing out of its legal proceedings to condemn the company’s property at East 126th Avenue and Washington Street.

Adams 12 informed Auto-trol Technology Corp. in March that it was taking the company’s building and 19 acres through eminent domain for $4 million less than than previous sales and appraised values. Before January, the building was not for sale and there had been no previous offers by the district to acquire the property, according to company spokeswoman Amy Bryer.

The actions taken by Adams 12 caused buyer interest in the property to dry up. The company had to prepare to hand it over to Adams 12 and find a new location under duress — putting it in a poor negotiating position, company officials said.

“Now the district wants to back out of its obligation after we have disrupted our business and incurred significant costs to move out,” said Danny Stroud, manager-director of Auto-trol.
