GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Jurors in Grand Junction have convicted a man of first-degree murder in the death of his 23-month-old stepson.

A seven woman, five man jury also returned a guilty verdict against 24-year-old Brandon Scott Moore on a charge of child abuse resulting in death.

Moore was accused of causing the July 2007 death of Logan Accord. The Clifton boy died two days before his second birthday.

Public defender Steve Colvin argued that a lesser charge of criminal negligence was more appropriate for Moore because he was having a –quote– “full-blown panic attack” when he repeatedly hit Logan to try to keep the boy conscious after he hit his head in a bathtub.

Moore will serve life in prison on the murder charge, and a concurrent 48-year sentence on the abuse charge.
