Junior-college transfer Dax Crum was named the Wyoming starting quarterback today for the season opener, coach Joe Glenn announced. Crum was picked ahead of junior returning starter Karsten Sween.
Sween was 9-9 as a starter the past two seasons after taking over midway through the 2006 season.
Crum is a sophomore and lead Mesa (Ariz.) Community College to a 9-2 record and No. 8 in the final polls last season.
“It has been a battle, and we feel we have two very good quarterbacks,” Glenn said. “But at this point, we have to get one guy ready for the opener against Ohio. Dax will get the start, but Karsten needs to stay sharp and I know he will.”
Last season, Sween was 215-of-359 passing for 2,028 yards with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Wyoming opens the season Aug. 30 at home against Ohio.
