DENVER—City officials say Denver police officers will make as much as $1.2 million in overtime pay for work related to the Democratic National Convention.
Budget estimates were released Friday and are part of the $50 million federal grant to cover convention security costs.
The 1,500 Denver police force plans to work 12-hour shifts from Aug. 23 to Aug. 29 and some are already working overtime training for the convention. The convention is from Aug. 25-28.
Police Detective Rufino Trujillo says he’d rather work an eight-hour shift and is not looking forward to dealing with protesters.
Other surrounding police agencies are helping Denver but an estimate of their expected overtime costs is unavailable.
