Hats off to the Democrats who are pitching in Wednesday to make Denver a little brighter through community service work.
Under the banner of Delegate Service Day and spearheaded by Michelle Obama and Colorado’s first lady Jeannie Ritter, roughly 1,000 volunteers will help at numerous nonprofit and service organizations.
A carefully crafted schedule assigns each participating state’s delegation to a specific task. For example, some Colorado delegates will be serving meals at the Denver Rescue Mission, while others will join seven other state delegations in planting trees and cleaning up at Curtis Park.
New Mexico delegates will read to children at a local library plus hand out clothing to families, and Missouri’s contingent will work on graffiti removal downtown.
All told, there are more than 30 locations or organizations where delegates will wrap their arms around the significance of helping others.
Coordinating this unique community service day has been a huge undertaking and certainly a complex one, and we commend the organizers for shining a light on the important priority of helping our neighbors.
Putting politics aside for a moment, how can you argue with that?
