BEIJING — The United States rallied for four runs in fifth and went on to defeat Japan, 8-4, for the bronze medal here Saturday.
Team USA got home runs from Matt LaPorta, Matt Brown and Jason Donald, whose two-run shot in the fifth put the U.S. ahead to stay.
Brett Anderson struck out six and walked three over seven innings to get the victory.
The bronze medal is the second won by the United States in Olympic baseball competition, with the other coming at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. The U.S. won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
