DENVER—Michigan Democratic Party Vice Chairwoman Arthenia “Tina” Abbott talked about the state’s struggling economy when she cast Michigan’s votes at the Democratic National Convention.

The Michigan AFL-CIO official and superdelegate announced Michigan’s vote on the convention floor Wednesday evening. Delegates gave 125 votes to nominee Barack Obama and 27 to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Hillary won Michigan’s disputed Jan. 15 primary. Obama wasn’t on the ballot, but went on to win enough delegates to win the nomination.

Abbott characterized Michigan as “the state most devastated by the unfair, failed trade and economic policies” of President Bush and GOP presidential candidate John McCain and said Obama’s plan to create jobs would help Michigan.

Michigan and Florida almost didn’t get to seat their delegates because they broke party rules by moving up its primary. The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee gave Michigan back its delegates with half votes in May, and the convention voted Monday to give Michigan and Florida delegates back their full votes.
