ESTES PARK, Colo.—A truck driver faces charges of careless driving after a three-vehicle crash Monday that killed a man on U.S. 36 near Estes Park.
The State Patrol said David Collins, 52, of Morrison was driving eastbound around 9:30 a.m. when his truck crossed into westbound lanes and collided with a minivan that in turn collided with a Kia.
Minivan driver Gerardo Rodriguez, 34, of Estes Park, died at the scene, troopers said.
Collins suffered minor injuries, and his passenger, Marie Collins, 52, of Morrison was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, troopers said.
The State Patrol said David Collins faces charges of careless driving causing death and careless driving causing serious bodily injury.
The death came a day after six family members were killed in Weld County after their minivan collided with a semitrailer.
The minivan driver, 26-year-old Adriana Ronquillo of Thornton, was making a U-turn at the time.
Also killed were the driver’s husband, Jose Bencomo, 33, her brother, Jamie Arais, 28, of Arizona, and three children, Letsly Bencomo, 6; Eddie Bencomo, 4; and Yurem Jesus Bencomo, 9 months. The semitrailer driver suffered minor injuries.
The State Patrol originally released different spellings for the victims’ names but corrected them Monday.
Also Sunday, one man was killed when a Ford Escort smashed into parked cars and then into a porch where the victim and his friends were standing in Littleton.
Adrian Pizana-Rodriguez, 22, was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide, said police spokesman Lt. Mike Broadhead. The victim’s name was not immediately released.
Broadhead said a warrant already was out for the suspect’s arrest for allegedly driving without a license. He said Pizana-Rodriguez smelled strongly of alcohol Sunday. Results of a blood test will not be available for about two weeks, Broadhead said.
